So, I have to click to see the thread, then I will actually get notified of further replys, then if I want to know what the replys were, I get to click again, then if I want to reply to one, I get to do it via the "really cute" web interface with lots and lots of cute pictures! And the graphics just look NEAT! I love watching them slowly pop into existance every time I go to a new page. How cool!

This is brain dead.

I hope it was worth the $95 they spent on it.

I'm posting this in a seperate message so that the moderator can easily delete it.

James,

To make life manageable with this new forum, I do the following:

1 - Set my account options to notify me via email
2 - Subscribe to the entire forum so I now whenever any topic has a new message
3 - Keep a tab in FireFox open to the forum.
4 - When I get a notification, I right-click on the link in the email and click on "Copy shortcut"
5 - I then paste that into the forum tab in FireFox.
6 - Read/reply.

It looks more complicated than it really is. I only have to do steps 1 and 2 once in my life. Step 3 will done when I bootup. Steps 4 and 5 are quite simple, and the final step I have to do whether it's for this forum or the email list.

I know this isn't as simple or easy as using the email list, but at least it's manageable.

Thanks,
PeterM

They must pay you more than they pay me. I can't justify spending that sort of time just to see if the message is one I can help with.

atm i have dialup, and lots of pictures sux for that. usually i have broadband which makes the pictures ok, but·for others that have dialup all the time it could make browsing questions and anwers slow. they could always turn off loading of pictures in their browser though.

the main problem for me is ease of use. when questions arrive in my email along with all my other email i usually read them all and help out where i can. if i had to go to a web based forum i cant imagine i would check them as often (definately not multiple times a day as i do with my email). in fact the only time i can see myself bothering to check is if i had asked a question that i wanted answered, in which case i would hope that everyone else is not doing the same or i might not ever get answers to my question.

this repeats some of the things i mentioned in my emails to the mailing list, but i wanted to include it here so that its 'on the record' :)

the mailing list has worked great and i see no reason to check this except to try to draw people to their site.
the yahoo forums allow for reading old·and current msgs on their web interface, so all questions should stay archived and accessable through the web. also im fairly sure you can post as well as read messages through their web interface.

maybe its just me, or maybe parallax should rethink this desicion.
lets see how the voting goes.
