Propeller 2 Engineering Sample

I have an Eval Board with the P2-ES. It's been a while since I fiddled with it and decided to give a try to the different IDE and languages.

I was wondering if there is a lot of things that do not work with the ES vs the current rev. For example in Spin2, I'm able to use pint/pinh/pinl but pinwrite does not work.

Comments

  • It depends on your board's version, the one mentioned as Engineering Sample (no version) is no longer supported and none of the current tools will generate code that will work. Later versions B and C are still supported:

The first RevA boards are labelled as 64000-ES RevA. If it says RevB instead then it's fully supported, and always will be.

PS: The RevA's have a ring of jumpers encircling the Prop2 chip.

  • Yes, I have the rev A that I purchased in december 2018.

I would like to get a new board but I find these P2 boards pretty expensive...

I think there was time when Parallax was exchanging the purchased ones for free. Even though there are no longer any Eval's stocked it'd still be worth asking about this.

  • Flexspin ostensibly has a -2a flag for the beta chips, but it's unsupported. Infact, looking at it, I'm pretty sure I at one point added an optimization pass that broke it (Rev. A doesn't have ranged BITL/BITH)

It all comes down to the date-code marking on the P2 chip, itself.

There are only a few Rev A silicon boards out there.

If you have one these markings, you have the latest silicon:

LPD1941 (Rev B, some capacitive crosstalk between adjacent pins in ADC mode)
LHU2019 (Rev C, crosstalk problem fixed by cutting ADC connections to adjacent pins)

So what have you got there?

  • So I would be eligible for an exchange? o:)

How about a P2 Edge and a breakout board?

    That would be perfect!
