New Commercial Product Preview
I am presently in Orlando for IAAPA, a gigantic tradeshow for entertainment and attractions. If you've ever wondered where the people who make rollercoasters sell their new ideas, it's at this show. There are lots of small vendors, too, like Elite Laser Tag, the company I work for.
The image is a preview of a product that we will start shipping next spring. It's called Domination Tower. It is an accessory for our laser tag customers. It presently supports three games
- Domination
- Hard Point
- Capture the Flag
Since this is a tech forum, I'll keep it to the tech. This product has...
- uSD and WAV audio output (uses a slightly modified version or Ray Allen's port of FSRW)
- XBee for coms to game control and taggers (JonnyMac)
- Nextion interface (JonnyMac)
- WS2818b interface for tower LEDs (cogless driver by JonnyMac)
- IR input (JonnyMac)
- IR output (cogless driver by JonnyMac)
- DS18B20 to provided PCB serial # and internal box temperature (cogless 1W by JonnyMac)
- Battery voltage monitor (P2 ADC)
- Button debouncing (P2 input filtering)
- Multiple timers (uses differential timing via getms() feature) (JonnyMac)
Based on a customer requests I will be adding RS-485 for DMX and other applications before release. Next week is going to be busy laying out the final PCB.
We've already taken pre-orders for more than a dozen devices and we're only half-way through the show (it's an expensive product so this small number is meaningful to us). Better still is that laser tag operators using competitor products are asking for compatibility.
To cap off my morning I've just been asked for a meeting by one of the largest show control companies in the world to talk about the Propeller. A good friend of mine uses their products and has had me build custom nodes for his projects using the P1. That company noticed and wants to talk.
Could be a good day all around!
