If he e-mails support with whatever email and username he is registered with, they should give me permission to activate the user. I don't work on support at the moment, but I assume someone checks those messages occasionally at least.
Alternatively, PM me the details directly (though not sure if he can if he's waiting permissions).
I can't find a user with the name he's used in Discord.
ha! yeah, it's uber-jank! The moderator "team" would sure love to fix up a bunch of things here.
Thanks for helping out the "Guy", Ada.
Account does seem to exist: https://forums.parallax.com/profile/M1k3y
Maybe user search is busted, too.
That'll be the one.
He's now active. Cheers.
Yay, finally. Thank you @VonSzarvas for the activation and @Wuerfel_21 for the relay.
For the records: I emailed support on the 18th but got no response except for the ticket autoresponder.
Also as an additional note: Before the activation I could not access the "General Discussion" Category while logged in. When following the link to this topic I got a permission error but when logged ot I could see the Category and associated topics without problems. All other Categories still worked and were visible in the sidebar, only this one disappeared.
A successful rescue operation!
Awesome, glad you could get in contact via @Wuerfel_21
Guess support must be out partying or some-such!
For the category thing, I think I have access to improve that- will give it a try.
Welcome to the Parallax forum !!
Sounds great. If you need any help with testing just let me know. It seems I have a talent for breaking software in unexpected ways.
The gift that keeps on giving
From my own testing, I have concluded that new account registration is infact broken. Plz fix.
Just needs manned by the sounds of it.
Did you follow the instruction to email support ?
There used to be an automatic process; A server monitored the Whos Online widget, to verify new users against some IP blacklists / spam check servers / etc.., and then auto-approved users if that checked out. The process fired once every 2 mins, and the Whos info refreshes every 5 mins, so it pretty much caught (and approved) everyone within 2 mins It effectively keeps the spammers off the site, of which there are 10-20 new applicants a day; and probably 25% of those start posting spam almost immediately (given the chance). The rest either do nothing, or are "sleepers".
A year or so ago, budget cuts forced the automatic service to be replaced with a manual "email support" solution. So... probably that text could be updated to something like... "Spam controls: To allow posting, email support with your username". Drop the mention of automatic things since they were replaced by the support manual effort; make it clearer. I'll see if I can do that.
But yeah- it's a manned effort nowadays- and usually support are good about following up once customers message them. Not sure if they have weekend coverage anymore, so maybe Ada emailed them late Friday?
Yay! I could update the message!! Now it reads...
Spam Control: Please e-mail us at support@parallax.com to request permission to post.
As long as there is someone who reads the mails. As I wrote above, I mailed to support@ a week before this post was made with no reaction at all.
