Just found this interesting video on Joe Grand AKA Kingpin who created the EMIC-2 text to speech module. I met Joe briefly at the Parallax Expo in 2012 but didn't know about his interesting hacker background. There's a quick inference and glimpse of the EMIC-2 at 9:40-10:10 in the video.

Great video! I also remember meeting Joe in Rocklin. Cool dude!
Near the end of the video, Joe said, "I don't know what I want to be when I grow up."
When I was in my early thirties, a highly respected customer asked me, "Phil, what do you want to be when you grow up?" My quick answer was, "I don't want to grow up." At nearly 73, now, I hope I've lived up to that standard. If I were to meet Joe again, I would advise him to pursue the same ideal.

I got my EMIC-2 for around $25 when Micro-Center was phasing out their Parallax stock. I barely have used mine but at that price I couldn't pass it up. It is a very interesting board.
