IIRC the previous earthquake of note was in 1989 - 5.6 in Newcastle 100ml (160km) north of Sydney. Quite a bit of damage as none of our buildings ever expected earthquakes of this magnitude.
Apparently we get a number of magnitude 3 but we don't seem to notice them.

Yeah, incredibly I don't think there have been any big injuries or deaths. Quakes are a really rare event around here, especially that big.
It was a long 15~20 mins hitting refresh on the USGS live quake tracker website to learn of the epicentre and magnitude
