Pullups on 16x2 PCF8574 LCD a concern?

Since the PCD8574 LCD is a 5v device should the pullups on R8 and R9 be removed and provided by other means?

    I've never found these pull-ups to be a problem for the P1 or P2. Most of these boards have 10K pullups which limits the current through the Propeller's pin protection diodes to a safe level.
