I just replaced my Eddie robot's Motor/Wheel Assemblies with one of the remaining Arlo Motor/Wheel Assemblies and it has made a world of difference.
I had been using the Arlo quadrature encoders with the Eddie Motor/Wheel Assemblies, but there is so much backlash in the Eddie gear train that there could be up to 12 mm of distance recorded before the wheels begin to move.
The Arlo Motor/Wheel Assemblies have very little gear train backlash compared to the Eddie Assemblies and this has enabled me to make a decent room map with Rviz using 2D Nav Goal.
