Problem with XBee communication in WX sockets of Propeller Activity Board

Hi, first off, please accept my apology if this is covered in a previous thread. I searched the Forum and did not find the same issue.
I am a Newbie, working my way through the Blocklyprop tutorials. Cool stuff. I’m trying to reproduce Ken Gracey’s “Tiny Tutorials: Super Simple XBee Wireless Communication,” and I can’t get the XBees to talk to each other.
After troubleshooting the wiring and the code, I finally attempted to replicate the loop back test found in Chapter 3 (XBee Testing and Configuration) from the “Getting Started with XBee RF Modules.” (Version 1.0 by Parallax).
I can successfully do the Digi X-CTU loop back exercise using with the XBee in the XBee adapter board (see Photo 1). However, when I put the Xbee into the WX sockets and connect the WX Din & Dout: no loop back (see Photo 2).
I must be missing something really simple. Any suggestions?
Thanks for taking a look.
