compiler internals are a bit out of my comfort zone; I'm more of a firmware guy.

Plus, if I'm honest, I'm not sure the P2 is on my radar as a chip to try.

Ah, sorry. I guess my answer was completely wrong. Although if you read all of the source in the PropGCC repository you will completely understand PropGCC. That may not be the best approach though!
