R2D2, having realized the banal pointlessness of his former existence, decided to forego fame and fortune and dedicate his remaining years to doing something useful in the only way he knows how, collecting rubbish.
R2D2 isn't the only one... It's becoming far too common to see a GNK droid hanging around the outside of a McDonald's willing to accept anything you will give it.
