Though you could probably build-in to the board for $3-4, sometimes that is cost prohibited or to small parts for a DIY.
And by using FTDI pin-out standard, there will be multi-use.

It is not a PropPlug without it!
If you need to invert the signal the fdti chip can be reprogrammed to do that.
I recommend that if anyone build a new P1 board, put dual rows of pins holes so it will be compatible with both Prop plug and LC234X.
For $14.99 on other mcu's platforms you get a full fledge debugger with energy trace and not just a uart-port,
so a don't make new buyer balk at having to spend more money that can not be used anywhere else.
