$45 Walmart App-Controlled R2-D2
I bought one to cannibalize for a paying project. Cheaper in-store at $45 vs $67 online. BT/iPhone/Android

A lot of actions in the video. It should make it into the project instead of into my collection. Or maybe I'll just buy another one for me the twins.

A purpose-built hackable version of this would be perfect for kids to learn to code.
Best thing I've read all day. How is it on carpet?
Not good, even on low-pile carpet. Those tiny rollers are great on smooth floors though.
THAT's my kinda thinking. Mr. Hadden!
I must add that this thing is heavy & solid, built like a brick outhouse. Still needs a laser or flamethrower, as most robots do.
It did a mediocre figure 8 today. Not super repeatable between several attempts, but hey, it's a toy at a low price point. Dead reckoning is not listed as an integral feature. There's a GUI on the phone/tablet to connect blocky (!) commands together to make a sequence. App at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hasbro.HeroDroid&hl=en
EDIT: I forgot about it's under-designed drive system. It would look good in a Mechanum or Omni setup:

EDIT2: Make me smart. ( line from a popular tv show.)
Agreed! So when are you getting one?
I have a trashcan the would look like R2, given the right paint job. I may go homemade, it's not beyond either one of us to use a trashcan as a receptacle for our creations:
