Friday Quiz #6

'Found this in my lawn the other day. 'Took me the longest time to figure out what it was and where it came from. The material is black rubber. The paint splashes are the color of the trim on my house.

  • Gutter/ down spout parts?
  • That's what I thought at first, too. But no.

    Definitely a turbo encabulator.

    Definitely.

  • Drier vent hood?

How big is it? It's hard to judge scaled from wood grain.
  • Not a drier vent hood.

    Bent into a "U" shape it's about 4" x 3". The rubber is 2" wide.

  • Antenna boot?
  • Is it normally above eye level when you're standing on your lawn?
  • Was it used to secure the paint can while painting the trim? Several thin lines of paint are going in the same direction and there is a band where there is no paint as if something was wrapped around it to secure it. I'm guessing.

    Sometimes yes; sometimes no.

I hadn't noticed that, but keenly observed!

Yes!!! It was held on with a zip tie, which apparently had snapped apart.

Now I wish I had posted this before I figured it out. It had driven me crazy for a couple days. I was sure it had come off of the house somewhere.

    Congrats!

I wouldn't have gotten it without your "Sometimes yes; sometimes no." clue so I'm not sure you would have figured it out any sooner.

I was thinking it was some sort of flashing to weatherize a vent or something similar.
