Right now I'm having trouble getting the colors that I want, and waiting for a new OBD2 dongle to arrive. Feel free to ask questions, once I finish it, I'll publish all the code and designs.

    Looks cool!

Looks like you are using the graphics and TV drivers from Parallax.

Colors happen per tile and that display looks like it can work nicely that way. See my signature for some help with colors. Edit: I'm not seeing it on mobile. Can track this down when it's time.

Basically, you need to define some pallettes and assign them to the tiles so pixels in those tiles have those colors.

To make this display unique colored for all indicators, 6 to 10 palettes would do it.

Or, when you get there, some of us can probably get it sorted out for you.

  • Very nice! Something like this could be handy for race cars running non factory ECUs (like the open platform MegaSquirt). When you do that, if you want displays for things like water temperature or manifold pressure, you need a data acquisition system. The ability to flash a shift indicator would be nice with a project like this too. Come to think of it, you could extend this for data acquisition on a budget..

  • Nice, but why not just go with a native screen from someone like 4D systems? It has a very capable processor of it's own built in and no need for a secondary processor to slow things down via a serial connection. Just apply power and go .... 4 10-bit ADC's that can sample at 40kHz and at least 14 digital i/o's .... the capacitive touch screens from 4D's gen4 have come a long way and have a decent resolution (i.e. 7 inch display 800x480 . .... can display video and still images, as well as graphics rendering.
  • I built something similar (but without gauges) for my Volvo which includes logging to an SD card so I don't have to haul my laptop! IMG_20160905_182200220_zpslz1whl6n.jpg
