Vintage flat-panel matrix TV

Check out this flat-panel matrix TV, 48x48 pixel neon matrix. What's more, Charles Francis Jenkins invented this way back in 1928.

I was just so impressed to come across something as ambitious as a matrix display from that period.

The beauty of neon pixels was that they had a built in form of memory. It took a higher voltage to light the pixel than it did to keep it on, so a small increase in the x and y voltage could turn it on, and a small decrease could turn it off.
  • 48 X 48 not exactly high def. I wonder what the video driver was back in that day.

Pacman would only be one pixel though!
  • That's a great old picture, I wonder if this ever found a use in advertising. Maybe it is where they got the idea for the display on Goodyear blimps.
