DB-Expander Daughterboard-to-SIP

Can anyone give me any information on where these are available or how to re-create them? I have the TSL1401DB and need to break the 2X6 2mm connector out to the 2.54mm connectors to connect to my board. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to recreate the board at ExpressPCB with the free software. You could substitute the 2mm connector with a 2.45 connector on a new PC board.

EDIT:The 2mm connector is needed for the camera module. I think what you are looking for is to replace the SIP pins for a connector?


There are several sellers that show the board on their web page, but you have to inquire with each as to their stock.

I can help you through ExpressPCB if you like. Parallax may have the Gerbers for it.

I am looking to connect the camera to my Arduino Mega for a camera project I am working on and cannot connect the 2mm to it as the headers I have are all 2.54mm spacing. I was just planning to use this board to break it out to connect to the controller.

where would I get the gerber file from? I have never created a pcb or used the software and am definitely willing to learn.

Can you just use an adapter cable?

If that were a 12 pin adapter cable that would be perfect. What about the 4.7K resistors on the signal lines? I will do some research along that line to see if I can find a cable like that I can use.

OK. I see the pull up resistors are need. Now you got me looking for parts!

Is this for production, or just a one off?

You can make a quick, cheap connector-to-wire adaptor from these parts, available at DigiKey -- no PCB required:

I spec'd 12" cables that you can cut in half. The crimped ends just snap into the socket housing. The resulting bare ends can be soldered into your Arduino Mega or to a connector that fits it.

It is a one off this time, but if successful, it will more thank likely be ported to other lines within the facility as it will be a relatively cost effective way for simple part inspection.

So Phil, from what I gather from just being able to use the cable, are the pull up resistors not required?

For the TSL1401-DB, I would add 4.7K pull-ups to the wires leading to the TR and SO pins. They're not necessary for SD and SC unless you have an I2C device plugged into the six-pin socket on the TSL1401-DB module.

Do you have an documentation explaining the purpose of the TR, SO, SD, and SC pins? I have read through the PDF, but am not clear unless they are to drive the accessory socket or something.

Yes, they're largely for the accessory socket -- not needed otherwise.
