You need to get an FPGA board. You can go as cheap as the DE0-Nano ($79) or even a BeMicro-A2 ($49). Parallax makes a nice board with a Cyclone V -A9 device that can run really big things, like a 16-cog Prop2. I think we sell that for $475.

Also, online training sites such as Udemy has a number of courses related to FPGA. And, both Altera and Xilinx have online training material to get you started.

As for how many there are, there are too many to list. A google search for FPGA boards will find many, plus information pages about where to start.
