I sure do miss that program, along with all the other educational stuff on pay TV. Once in a great while there is something interesting on PBS, but they tend to deal with politics and worldly affairs, and a whole lot of cooking shows. Everybody is a chef these days.

There is a lot of educational stuff on Youtube. More than enough for a lifetime.

Oh yes, I can use up my high speed data, just from links from this forum alone. I wonder what their server configuration's look like? They made a business storing everybody's video's, the most space consuming data there is. It's nice to have a choice from something highly technical to a good laugh, with the click of a mouse. TV just couldn't do that with three or four hundred channels.

    MikeDYur,

Ah, sorry. Sometimes I forget. Here we have 30Mbps download and upload for as long as you like for 10 Euro per month. Even on my phone I can watch Youtube all day everyday with hardly a dent on my phone bill.

I guess the rest of the world will catch up at some point.

    :)

  • My AT&T account had unlimited data from the beginning, and then they instituted a monthly limit, which I kept exceeding. They never charged me for the excess data because it was during a grace period. Just before the grace period ended the limit on my account was increased to a very high level that I've never exceeded since then. I think AT&T was forced to increase the limit due to competition that either had higher limits, or no limit at all.

Of course I have no idea about AT&T. It's just that for years now I have been reading about the "plans" and "data caps" Americans have to put up with.

It all sounds very expensive and annoying.

But I guess capitalism needs it's rewards. So that's OK.

Netflix's new series White Rabbit Project is a Mythbusters knockoff, featuring Grant, Tory & Kari. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rabbit_Project_(TV_series)

IMO they tried a little too hard with their "superpower" show, episode one.

The forum software botched the link. Try this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rabbit_Project_(TV_series)

  • Actually, the White Rabbit Project is produced by the same production company. So technically it's a spin-off. It gets better as iit goes along, they are still figuring out the format.
  • I know that Allen Pan from the Sufficiently Advanced YouTube channel will be on that show. It looks like it'll be a fun show!

Hey now, Whit's the official preacher in the forum. Heater, surely you don't want trouble with the union? Or the Big Guy up top? Who may or may not be Ken...

A crazy setup is Netflix, not for storage reasons like I'm sure YouTube is, but for streaming reasons.

Sorry for taking us off topic. Carry on.

Considering that Netflix runs on top of Amazon''s AWS, the real crazies in the server game are Amazon and Google. While you are Youtubing, check out some of the Google data center tours. AWS is pretty tight lipped about their infrastructure.

Sorry, back to your regular programming...

That's crazy stuff. What kind of scam is that?

Think I'll sign up with the Church of the SubGenius. Or Discordia. Or Pastafarianism.

  • Pastafarianism, is that with red sause?
