Prop dip 40 based on ??????

I was just wondering what is the prop 40 based on? For example is it a Microchip pic18 with a interpreter written to it. The stamp2 is a pic with a simple basic interpreter written to it.

Indeed, they are. But what does this have to do with the Propeller?
No they don't make the wafers themselves but they have the chips made based on a design by Chip Gracey.

I don't think you can program the Propeller with MPLAB. There are a couple open source C compilers available.
I believe both SimpleIDE and PropellerIDE are open source. These compilers can be found in the Propeller download section.
The Propeller's design is now open source. Parallax has released the Verilog code for the Propeller. Here's a link to the discussion.
