Servo paddle shifter simulation

Im trying to use a servo to operate like a paddle shifter. I have 180° of rotation and need the servo to stop at 30° increments using 2 push buttons to control it. The trick is i can only use parts from the basic stamp activity kit. So far my results haven't given me much luck, any ideas?

They do seem similar. I'm teaching 17 year old son a few things about embedded systems because he's thinking about going to school for it next year.

I recommend reading Chapter #4, Activity #6 in What's A Microcontroller? for an overview of controlling servo positions with a pushbutton.
