A Time for Thanks

With Thanksgiving (US) tomorrow, I thought I would take a moment to say thanks to every single member of this forum. You all continue to be a fount of knowledge from which I have learned so much. But it's more than that. This forum has also been one of the most civil and respectful online communities I frequent. It is for those reasons, and the occasional crazy @erco eBay recommendation, that I keep coming back. This is a community worth being a part of, and you are all responsible for that. Thank you.

And thank you Parallax! Thank you for hosting and fostering this fantastic community. It is worth its weight in Propeller chips (and Basic Stamps and ELEV-8s and Scribblers and...)!

    Amen Brother Seairth!

Likewise, I'm thankful to be a part of this illuminated and enlightened forum. This is the most helpful, best-intending and well-behaved group I know of, thanks to careful shepherding by Parallax and our moderators. To that end, it's an online treasure worth protecting.

It's a further honor to be called out specifically for my bizarre "buy now" rants. Hopefully we've all squirreled away enough sensors, relays and 555 timers to get us through a holiday build or two and maybe a few snow days. :)

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I'm in need of an erco-approved cheap free shipping deal for extra storage space.. today I did some mental calculation over what it would take to get all the ebay deals moved from various tables and floors into proper organized storage.. and it can't be done! Argh..
Something to fix that is something I would be very thankful for! :)

    "Hoarder's Remorse."
  • Happy Thanksgiving to all the Parallax Forum's member's and their familys.

This is the official start of the Christmas season, my only advice is to look both ways before crossing the store isles.

    No Thanksgiving here I'm afraid.

Except the consumer marketing powers that be have decided to import the "Black Friday" idea and there is now wall to wall advertising to run out and spend money on junk you don't need.

Thanks a bunch for that idea. :)

Me, I'm off to Berlin for some Xmas shopping !

Same over here (currently Norway).. except that some shops have 'black week', and others 'Black Thursday' to start off early. Well, at least I got some very cheap Bose QL25 noise cancelling headphones two years ago, so I shouldn' complain.
Most people here of course have almost no idea about what 'Black Friday' is supposed to be, or when it is (they may remember that there was something like that last year, but can't figure out when it's supposed to be this year. I know I couldn't.)

Actually, I suspect there's a new(?) trend here in the US. While Black Friday is still big, some retailers are opting out by being closed on that day! They spin it as "giving our employees time to be with their families on the Thankgiving weekend." It sounds great, but... this year, I started getting "Black Friday starts today!" ads. On Veteran's Day (US), which was two weeks ago! In other words...

"Avoid the madness! Take Black Friday off! But, don't worry, we'll still make all the same deals available to you starting two weeks before then!"

Never liked the term "Black Friday".

Must be maddening for retailers, to simultaneously stock shelves for Halloween and Christmas. That is what happened at the local WM.

BTW: The OP was really well written. +1 on a great bunch of people.
