WARNING: Do not try this at home, unless it is un-intentional.
I made this board up obout ten years ago, and it worked fine powered by batterys for about a year. One day I hooked it up to my bench power supply and, "POP". Then the release of the "Magic Smoke", I thought I burned it up because of of a noisey power supply, so it was shelved to replace the LED driver someday. That day came yesterday, trying the board again on batterys, it worked fine for over three hours. While it was running I secured the driver back onto the board with super glue, and covered the pin hole that had popped out of the side with it, still kept working. This morning I hooked it back up to the same batterys in the same discharge cycle and, "POP", There is that that hole in the side and that "Magic Smoke" again. This isn't the first time I have released the smelly stuff, but this is the one time I can't explain why. So for general reference purposes, this is what it looks like. Also I want to make sure I replace the driver this time, that is why i'm going to turn it into a blob of plastic. And also it gives me a chance to check the batterys in the house smoke detectors.
P.S. It's a nice day to leave the windows open.

And they still work, just didn't want to get yelled at.
These are fairly expensive but lightweight, they seem to be long lasting, and you should be able to carry quite a few. Though I'm not sure how they are triggered. It has to be a combination of materials. Whatever the puck is made of, and the phenolic board it's mounted on. In combination with the cured super glue, makes it all work with excellent illumination.. .
Better yet, you should stick to your design. The wife is talking about repainting.
Maybe don't plug up the new vent holes as they appear, they help with the cooling...

You have a devious mind Tommy, I will try that in an outdoor conclusion to this experiment in electronics gone awry. That's if it still has any poop left in it!

BTW: Fantastic mood music erco.
The driver puck has developed at least four more vent holes, and solder has emerged from the inside. This thing is one tough cookie to destroy, but not impossible!
Was that your version of the "Flametube" ?

Looks like you have done very well
Thank you Heater!
But because of copyright infringement I will have to call it something like "Smoke Tube".
Not sure if it is a total loss, or just thermally shut down. I couldn't figure out how to use Tommy's suggestion of a heat sink without interfering with possible new venting. So I went with trying to protect the board and LED's and let this die a natural naked death. I am going to have to take a shower now, as this smoke permeates everything.
It's all in the name of science yunno.
Never mind the silly Tramps stuff, what about Arthur Brown?
Still burning in 2016 !
A blast from the past, 70s or 80s last time I listened to that, Never seen the video till now. Wow, 1968 and I was nine years old, and I had neighbor friends that weren't exactly role models, so I imagine I heard it the first time about then.
P.S. I'm all the time listening to music, as you can hear in my video.
