  • That's funny erco, the leads on the LEDs look too long unless, you add the lens from a non-working board camera, like I did. These work geat with the OBEX examples. I like the one for BS2, and color matching Windows GUI program.

Oh, great. Well, by contrast, there's Parallax's TCS3200 module:

    1. It comes with a lens.
    2. The LEDs are semi-rigidly mounted at the proper angle to form a spot 1" from the board.
    3. Additional LED fixturing is available (from me) for total rigidity.
    4. It includes 1" threaded standoffs and mounting screws for repeatable positioning.
    5. The LEDs are current-regulated for brightness stability and repeatability.
    6. It comes packed in a static bag, with a cardboard sleeve that keeps the LEDs from getting crushed.
    7. Every module is completely tested for functionality before packaging.
    8. All components are purchased new from reliable suppliers. No gray-market or counterfeit stuff.
    9. Modules are assembled in the U.S. by an ISO 9001-2008 certified assembly house.
    10. Modules are completely lead-free and RoHS-compliant.
    11. And ... you get Parallax's fantastic support.

Yes, the Parallax module is more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Whoa, I'm not pushing any inferior foreign goods here, and I would have bought the Parallax product if I had a real use for it. Dependability and repeatability didn't justify the expense. You get what you pay for, and erco's example is what you get.

Please don't mistake me poking fun at a careless photo for an endorsement! I simply find it hard to believe that anyone would post such an obviously flawed photo. I think in many cases these discount Chinese Ebay merchants have no idea what they are selling.
  • Don't worry, guys. I could never mistake what you wrote as being endorsements. :)

Conversely, however, it might be easy to mistake an "endorsement" for something else when it's being read from a sheet of paper at a press conference, head-down in a monotone voice. (Of course, to keep this post apolitical, I'm not naming names or referring to any particular event!)
