Adafruit Bluefruit EZlink question

Does anybody have experience with the Adafruit, Bluefruit device? I need a bit of help.

Here is the situation, I have both an HC-06 (HC) BT module configured to run at 115,200 baud and the Bluefruit (BF) device, which self configures its baud rate. Both are connected to the exact same power and data pins. The HC Runs like champ, sends BT data to my old Android phone to display data using the BlueTerm app, also pairs and connects with my S4 phone and my laptop BT to display data via the PST or BlueTerm app. The ONLY wired connections I am currently using for the BF or HC device are 3.3V, Gnd, TX and RX no resistors

The BlueFruit device pairs, connects, and transmits data to my laptop to display data via PST. Likewise, the HC-06, works fine connecting top lap top and PST.
The BlueFruit device pairs, connects, but will NOT display data using the BlueTerm app on my S4 phone. HC-06, works just fine.
The Blue Fruit device pairs, but will NOT connect with the old phone. HC-06, works just fine.

Any ideas on why certain devices are not connecting or receiving data from the BF device?

There was a capacitor that came with the BlueFruit but no documentation on what to do with it.

My ultimate goal is to use the BlueFruit device to wirelessly upload programs to the Propeller.

Thanks Steve

  • Steve,
Issue May be with bluetooth version compatibility.

  • I've used a couple of these successfully, for remotely programming Props from a laptop. Have been really happy with them. You need to add the transistor/cap/resistor associated with the reset line (some people suggest just a cap is sufficient).

There is a way to fit these components on the back if you are good with surface mount soldering. Otherwise hooking them up externally is pretty easy too

  • Thanks, @ Tubular I recall you mentioning the connections in another post. Can you aor anybody for that matter, post a picture or connection diagram that I can reference?
    Thanks

  • Here's a schematic. Its the cap/resistor/transistor circuit from the 'DTR' output through to the prop plug. 10k works fine if you don't have 33k

I'll post a photo of the surface mount equivalent on the back of the ezlink
  • Here's the photo. Remember to break the track between the central 'pin6' pad and DTR, before doing any of the soldering. After that its just a matter of getting the legs of the transistor in the right place, then adding the passive components.
