I found what I want for Christmas.

Who wants to take up a collection? (erco reference) :innocent:

Seriously though. In my younger years each Christmas was filled with anticipation about the next Nintendo or Sega Genesis I was getting. Once Nintendo stopped making games on cartridges I gave up and the few games I have are PC based. This I want. The only games I truly enjoyed are here.

  • Wow Chris! You've found what I want for Christmas too!

I'd better make plans to relocate to Rocklin for the holiday period! You guys can shop all the best stuff!!

Pretty cool! I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. Plug & Plays have been around for about 10 years. I bet they included the mini console just for nostalgic sport. Surely they could have fit all the electronics and battery inside the hand controller by now!

VonSzarvas, yeah, totally excited about this one!

erco, I've seen all these integrated mini-consoles, however this one is from Nintendo, looks like a mini-version of the old unit and has the best selection of games for me.

    Nerdvana! :nerd:
  • Looks interesting but I still have an original NES with game controllers and a couple of cartridges including games not in the 30 games collecting dust in a box. I'm also planning on setting up a RetroPie which does much more than this unit for about the same cost (Pi, case, power supply, sd card).

The thing is, the games in this unit are the ones I played for years. The only reason I stopped was convenience. Not only was it increasingly difficult to get working controllers but the cartridges made horrible contact and didn't always work. Not to mention the space everything took up. This newer unit is smaller and I know I will play it at least once a week so it's worth it to me.
  • It's cute, and much more powerful than the original console, don't recognise some of the titles, but their probably fun to play. I have seen SEGA mini consoles at the Dollar Store for forty bucks, but I was afraid it wouldn't have the same look and feel. We're into a Ratchet and Clank, All 4 One, on the PS3 right now, it's pretty engrossing.

  • One nice thing about this console is that it has an HDMI output. Maybe the video quality will be better than the original NES.

I imagine it will be better at least in the sense of being noise free and better SNR, however the convenience of HDMI connection outweighs anything else. All my media equipment and computer monitors have HDMI primarily now.

  • But does it have the Kaizo Trap?
