Jameco Features BASIC Stamps

I just got an email from Jameco, web version at http://enews.jameco.com/q/28XEL6GNatqI8JjnvpeapSzQZ5k_3lBrkM9TB_auSnfKuhFQ5nDnb7pcJ

The biggest PR push for the BS-2 in recent memory. The Stamp is still a great educational tool. The BS-1 was my first micro and I still have fond memories using that to beat everyone (including MIT) at the very first Trinity Firefighting Robot Contest. http://articles.courant.com/1994-04-18/news/9404180144_1_robots-hot-wheels-maze

And the rest is history! :)

  • I've never programmed a BASIC Stamp. Hmmm....

Didn't know you are a toymaker in a toy company! If I was there in '94 to witness all that as a hyperactive 8-year old kid, I would have been so inspired!

Sadly, I lived in a 3rd world country where most of the electronics like Basic Stamp and testing (except the classic Sanwa multimeter) were very inaccessible back in the 90s (only if you are a technician like my neighbour). Only get to learn robotics much later after 2005. :)

I received the same flyer twice and their catalog, and I also bought a BS-1 from them at some point. They are also my goto point for TTL logic and CMOS and several other things. And having read the article I am decidedly impressed. Note to the writer of the article R2-D2 includes a fire extinguisher as part of his basic equipment list, (dry chemical style and the one used in computer rooms as well).

Strange? Why are all these robots leaving your house for a trip to NYC? They hope to be here first week in September......

  • "What's a Microcontroller kit" has a fairly long history, what could possibly change in the future, that wouldn't make this the great place to start the hobby.

Make a wide circle around Cleveland and the RNC, looks like it is going to be crazy, and probably not robot friendly.

I and most everyone else here will be living in a third world country come January!
