At first glance, this evaluation board looks very interesting, but I will have to study it a bit more closely to get the full picture. The board includes support for six steppers, however the motor voltage is limited to 12V.

I don't think the 12 volt motor cap is a problem. I would think this would address at least 90% of 3D printers. The cost for the evaluation board is quite reasonable.
