Smoke machine for the ELEV-8 V3 and various projects
Hello everybody!
After one year's hard work and lot of experiments I'm ready to present you, my DIY smoke machine for the ELEV-8!
Today I made the first flight-weight test, to see if the ELEV-8 is able to lift the system as well as the flight behaviour .
I'm completely excited! ELEV-8 seems to fly perfect and able to make accurate maneuvers like has no weight to carry !

Also looking forward to videos.
I'm also looking forward to seeing this in action.
Very cool!
At this time I have only some pictures from indoor flight.
I'll post the fist video with smoke from an outside test soon.
Yes Jim the balance is perfect due to a new base design, able to carry both: smoke machine and batteries. This base is very strong and extremely light. It consisted of two aluminum tubes and three 3D printed Parts:
I strongly suggest that base because it can support not only the smoke machine , but various other devices like cameras etc.
You simply remove the battery and the hook-and-loop straps and put them All on to the new base.
Yes Duane!!!
This is the ultimate goal!
Ele-VAPE!
This thing will be awesome, if the propwash doesn't destroy the smoke writing!

I checked out the entire elektronic system (Pump, heater, receiver channels etc).
I had the minimum power of smoke (through the potensiometer).
Everything seems to be ok.
First outdoor video:

I must pay attention what position is the best for the smoke output
If you moved the tube to the bottom of the craft to avoid propeller disruption, and perhaps add one of those "usb disco lights" (search ebay), could be a real party animal!!
I decided to use something bigger in order to produce more smoke.....
Maybe you could use a modified IC engine to produce the smoke and provide current for charging the battery while in flight.
What type of oil? The ordinary engine oil?
I'm trying to find the most productive for smoke liquid synthesis. Some people suggest mix (30% Glycerin | 70% Water)
Any suggestion or additional info source about that topic is welcome!
There are various oils mentioned. I think they all use the heat of a muffler which might run cooler than your heater which could mean less power to the heater.
Yeah you could, nitro engines make a lot of smoke. It would be really messy though.

And speaking of fire here in Nikos' thread, I watched the "Jason Bourne" movie last night. Great action flick, and there is fire a-plenty in the protest scenes in Athen's Syntagma Square. Things have deteriorated a bit since I ran the marathon in 1999.
