That would fit very nicely in corner of Chip's farm. He's got all the gear needed to work on it there.

    Space Parallax!

  • I'm sorry I couldn't resist, but Chip may need Windows.
  • 'Looks like additional storage space for your eBay goodies! Go for it!

  • Looks like a prime target for an upcoming Tiny House Nation episode!
  • Space station? Looks more like a suppository for the Jolly Green Giant :)
  • All kidding aside, that does look like a heck of an opportunity for someone, moving it will cost a good chunk of money, renovation looks pretty much straightforward. It would make a great guest cottage, I wouldn't mind having it, and live out my space fantasys, dig a hole, it would make a great storm shelter.

Ah, good ol' Craigslist. Ya know, it's selling for a lot more than $1. That's just a way (against CL rules, but nevermind) to get it listed at the top. It's probably aluminum, so the scrap value of the metal alone is well into the thousands.

I'm more interested in what looks like a 3-phase converter and/or generator in the front.

It *is* in Gardena, though, which means Erco could hitch it to the back of his bike, and trailer it home.

Kitted out with some suitable blinken lights and solar panel arrays who would not pay to spend a week end in a space station?

It looks like it is rusting, I bet it was designed to handle considerable presure.
  • If it is aluminum, perhaps one of the new 'cheap' launchers like Firefly or Rocket Labs could insert it (and erco) in LEO. (Wasn't Skylab just an unused propellant tank from a Saturn rocket?) They're advertising launches for a mere $4.9M. Seems well within the reach of a Kickstart campaign. But if you're going that far, why not use a Bigelow space tent? Could be that Bigelow would pay the entire launch fee just to have you test their B330.

Space stations don't have sinks. That's probably just a gag by the lister. It's almost certainly an environmental trainer for something like the B-52, where crews spent extended hours -- SAC had bombers in the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The fact that it's something from Boeing is plausible, giving the location of the listing, but other aspects of the listing are questionable.

Don't think that's rust, but simple surface corrosion. The metal could be an odd alloy, which could account for why it hasn't gone to the scrapper before now.

It's shape is that of most any airplane made since the late 30s. B-17, B-29, B-52, and so on are basically flying cylinders.

  • In case it is a vessel that can handle pressure, and User Name's idea don't work, and you can't make it to outer space, there is aways inner space.

Nice graphic, Mike! I'd use it if we had bigger icons!

Might have been a trainer for ICBM crews or prototype for what the eventually put in the ground for the launch crews.

  • Thanks erco, I just thought you needed to be at the helm, of what ever you make of this tank.

Related: This week, Electronic Goldmine had grab bags of random NASA stuff, but it appears to be sold out now.

    Antique NASA Surplus Product Photo
New old stock components for the NASA LANDSAT, MARS OBSERVER and TELSTAR 4 space programs. You will get 10 pouches/bags/box of items such as precision resistors, screws, brackets, fasteners, semiconductors, capacitors, etc. No two assortments are the same and no two will contain all items shown on list but will probably have items not even on the list. Assortment is sold for its antique historical value and the fact that each of these components cost a fortune. Our government paid top dollar for this and each was precision top of the line. Almost all have labels listing the project and date (1990 and up). Sold in a quantity of 10 pouches/boxes/bag (up to 100 individual pieces).
    G21415 Unit Price: $10.00
  • Those NASA bags sold out instantly. Someone grabbed them all.
