That's a bit of ringing at 115.2k baud, could do with a little termination. I see they use four $FF characters for synch I guess. Still not a clue what the application is though.
Isn't there a feature in google maps that allows a group of like minded people to drop pins to show their locations on a world map? If there isn't, there should be.
The model depends upon the purpose which is not immediately obvious but you might wonder if this was a Smartmicro marketing initiated install for the ITS Conference. Seeing the Innovation Center has some city/government backing and incentives it might be setup for trials but other than counting cars coming in the driveway and traffic volume on the street it's a mystery.
No, it's not Smartmicro initiated. In fact the whole radar thing is incidental to what we are up to. No we don't get any backing from any city. Apart from the fact they invited us to use the ProspectSV space a bit.
There is more to it than counting cars. More on that another time. If we get it working that is....
That little radar is quite amazing. It can detect and track multiple vehicles out to 1000ft or so. The whole thing is the size of a cigarette packet and consumes 3 Watts. Back in the day when I was involved in a phased array radar project it was a bit bigger:
Mind you, that could give you aircraft detection out to 256 miles and an accurate altitude.
In the mean time there was that terrible happening in Orlando. Today there was traffic chaos here and police everywhere just now. And a black helicopter hovering over my hotel. I have no idea what is going on.

You didn't leave that 'dead' power supply in the foyer, did you ?!
Wires everywhere, and 'dead' scribbled in black felt-tip on a post-it, would trigger a full alert...

Nah, everybody KNOWS from watching TV that it could only be a bomb if it had a LED digital clock counting down or at the very very least a blinking LED like they put on those tiny little "hidden" trackers. I always think that both of these would be a big fail due to the battery running flat very quickly. Either way you just cut a wire, blue or red, blue or red, but leave it to the very last second to do it and you'll always get it right.
So I made it to the ITS America Expo. I did not even know it was on before I got here. Quite a feat given that they want $1000 to visit for the day. I managed to get a free pass via a guest invite at the last moment
Good grief. It has to be the most boring expo, about anything, I have ever seen in my life. Very quite and somber. Where is that American razzmatazz?
I mean, really, if you go to Inter Traffic in Amsterdam there is music and dancing girls and beer and food. No really, no expense spared on making it fun.
I've been to more lively cat shows!
Not that there wasn't a lot of interesting tech to be seen. Radar, laser, video detectors, all kind of stuff.
It looked up toward the end of the day when one stand broke open a crate of IPA!
However, there was one fantastic participant. In a far off corner of the show area I found a bunch of high school kids showing off a delta robot. 3D printing other robots. They were using Raspberry Pi for the brains and what may, or may not be, Parallax ping sensors.
They were all part of the "Square One Education Network"

Here is the latest setup on the bench. 400ft cable enters from the left:
This is what the signal looks like at the RS485 adapter's terminal block:
B+B isolated 485 adapters should be arriving tomorrow to replace that cheap Fry's thing.

For extra points can you say which model it is?
For some reason I can't access smartmicro.de just now, did all the visiting Parallax forum members you just directed there bring it down ?
I'm just to day off to talk to our Smartmicro contact at ITS America San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
You are right about that ringing. There is another terminal block with some kind of termination resistors on it that might quite that down.
Probably. Mind you if I found it I would drop the pin anywhere except where I am. I'm like that.
But why would you put that on the roof?
Um, is it a UMRR?
My quick guess is UMRR-0A Type 29

An organization that seems to be doing a great job of bringing some reality to education.
I'll post some pics if I can figure out to shrink them to forum acceptable size on this Surface Pro gizmo.

I want one!
Want to have lunch or dinner tomorrow?
Love to. See P.M.
I am waiting to pick him up at the train station in Sacramento. The train is 50 minutes late tonight, which is probably early.
I met you at one of Jeff Ledger's Ohio Propeller Expos. You are fun/interesting to sit and talk to about any subject!
Is that how he got there to meet up with you?
He went and sat on that tractor for a good half hour and had a few smokes.
