Forum bug: New post not showing up in category.

New post not showing up in category.

I just made this post to the Robitics category:

https://forums.parallax.com/discussion/comment/1374736/#Comment_1374736

But on visting the Robotics category page it is not there.

The "How fast does the Speed of Light go?" thread is still showing the last post as bing from May 3rd.

WTF?

Just checked for you. Not a bug, rather a feature.

That thread has lower priority than other topics, and hence will not show automatically at the top of the category list.

Everyone subscribed or participating in the thread should still get direct announcements though (of all new posts).

Ah, yes, one of those features that looks more like a bug :)

Might make sense to move the thread to General Discussion than sink it.

    No worries.

But the 'last date' of the thread shows May 3, while if you click on the thread there are many posts from May 4, and one from today. That *is* a bug, whatever way you look at it.

Perhaps how they implement the sinking feature. By simply not updating the last post date. That way a thread will gradually move down the sorting order.

    Yeah, it's a bug.
  • Feedback noted.

Heater is right when he notes that the date-lock is how the sink feature is implemented. It's not fair to call this a bug- perhaps instead a software feature you don't agree with.

Anyway- let's agree to disagree and move on. I've added this matter to the internal list of feedback for review next time a forum update is looked at.

    Thanks guys.

Not to be a jerk about it, but it doesn't need a forum update to not sink threads. Simple don't, or if you do, just note it in the thread.

We've been going around this now for almost a year, and still, moderators sink threads without making a public note of it. People can certainly be made aware when a thread has gone too far off-topic -- or, like this one was never on-topic.
