BOE USB and serial LCD?

Hi,
I have the USB board of education, and a bs2. Will the Parallax 2 x 16 Serial LCD https://parallax.com/product/27977 work with it even though it isn't the serial version?

    Not the serial version of a serial LCD? What is it and where did it come from? Generic Hitachi parallel LCDs are cheap but not easy, they can be made to work, but consuming many pins, hours, and beer.

    Or perhaps you meant the BoE wasn't serial. Yes, a USB BoE will work fine with a serial LCD.

    Could I write a code so the screen will always display the value of a certain variable?

    Yes, that is a relatively simple task for the Serial LCD.
