My friend, Matt, is a gifted animatronics builder, and is recently using the Propeller via the EFX-TEK HC-8+ controller. At Monsterpalooza (Pasadena, CA) this weekend he showed off his latest creations; both have been a huge hit with the attendees, and even the celebrities at Monsterpalooza for autograph signing.
The first is a slot-machine type game. Once you pull the handle three digits (using Nixie tubes for cool factor) "spin" -- press a button to lock in the first, then try to match the other two. If you match all three then the machine pays out a bunch of tokens. Being this is a Joker game, and most gambling is illegal in CA, when you reach for your winnings a chute opens and they fall back into the machine accompanied by the Joker's laugh. No money is used -- Matt is supplying tokens for people to play with.
The second is an animatronic version of "Operation" -- a game created in the 50s or 60s. It plays the same: you use a set of tweezers to try to remove "eggs" from the giant bug. Touch the body and it goes a little crazy. People love this! In a fun bit of Hollywood irony, the first person too play this game at the show was director Guillermo del Toro, who's first studio film was "Mimic" (Matt's bug looks a bit like the bugs in "Mimic").
