Communication Error- no propeller chip found

I am trying to get the Propeller Education Kit breadboard (40 pin DIP version + PropClip) up and working. On one PC it works fine and indicates it is using COM3, but on two other PCs, it can't find the Propeller chip and shows that it has searched COM1 and COM4 (usb). I can not find any way to change or add a COM port that it can find, even though I have USB ports coming out my ears. All three systems are running WINDOWS 10. Any help would be appreciated. These are all relatively high performance PCs. The 2 that don't work have AMD processors and the one that works has an Intel.

Thanks,

N1HC

  • Best thing would be to uninstall the FTDI drivers and the Propeller Tool, disconnect your board and then reinstall the Propeller Tool and let it install the current drivers. Only after the software installation is complete, plug in your board. Try to use USB 2.0 plugs, although I am using USB 3.0 ports on my Toshiba Laptop, (Intel).

You can confirm that the driver is installed properly by looking in the device manager. The port should appear/disappear from the Ports (COM & LPT) section when connected/disconnected from the PC. Once you've confirmed the driver is successfully installed, try the troubleshooting guide here: https://www.parallax.com/files/content/docs/Support/Downloads/Drivers/USBDriverTroubleshooting-V1.0.pdf
