Use cut pieces of 40 pin headers.
Here is the way I did this on my current project.
You need soldering skills to attach the headers.
You do need a Prop Plug to program it.
I like the Prop Mini.
Here's a graphic I made a while back for a post that I never made. It simply shows the Mini on a breadboard to blink an LED on P0.
Have you downloaded the Propeller Education Kit PDF? I would definitely recommend going through that. Although the Mini wiring is different, if you use the same pin numbers, you can use all of the code examples, etc.
