Return Shipping to China

I got $86 of sub-par cameras from a China seller which needs to go back. The small 10 ounce box shipped here free, but it will cost $22.75 minimum to ship it back. I still need to understand that disparity.

Consider myself vented.

Been there. Bought $100 china-made Volvo VIDA Dice computer so that I could program my car (costs thousands if you buy it through Volvo). The first one was DOA and it was going to cost some $35 to send back.

Now when I buy anything expensive on eBay, I always ensure "North America only" is selected!
  • I ordered 5 sets (30) props for my JJRC H20 hexacopter from Amazon and was surprised to find they were shipping from China.
I'm also leery of expensive eBay items in general but prefer "North America" sellers with slightly higher prices...

I never order anything from China that I can't afford just to eat if it turns out badly. The return shipping is simply too much, notwithstanding the risk of not getting reimbursed even if you do send stuff back. But considering the money I've saved in the long run, the "bad goods tax" is bearable.

China is 'working the system' very well indeed, on international postage.

There must be international reciprocal postal agreements in place, so that everyone agrees to deliver locally, on the basis it 'all averages out'.

However, if the package flows are not balanced, and the originating country prices are very low, the destination country can find they are conspiring against their own local companies (who have to pay higher local postage charges).
Peoples own taxes, are being used against them, quite clever really.

jmg, that is precisely what happens. The sending country keeps the postage and the receiving country delivers free. The system fails when there is a disparity in sending vs receiving. And abused when the shipping country ships so much more that it reduces the costs to almost nothing!

Every other country is subsidising China!
