Mysterious repeating signals arriving from deep space

Researchers just announced the discovery of radio signals from beyond our galaxy that are behaving in strange ways. Fast radio bursts—or FRBs—are very rare, very quick blasts of radio waves originating billions of light years away, Popular Science explains...Scientists used to think FRBs were caused by "cataclysmic events," such as neutron stars colliding with each other and exploding. Repeating FRBs means that can't be the case.

    I wonder if in a Galaxy far, far away is a building with a Morse Code transmitter where a Coke bottle ensnared by a window blind cord and resting on the key with a breeze coming through the window causing the bottle to bounce erratically? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

    Of course, it could mean that we either passed or failed "THE TEST" and now they are coming to reward (or not) us.

    I'm still hoping for a movie version of "A Canticle for Liebowitz". That Atomic Flame Deluge was a bear.

    It's about time we heard something from deep space, to justify the cost of all the radio telescopes built. Anything out there won't be hearing Marconi for quite awhile, unless we have been probed, if that has already happened, we will never have first contact, until we can get to their neighborhood.

    Absolutely amazing! You had that clip trimmed and posted within an hour of my little tease. I still have haunting visions from the Gregory Peck version. Regarding Heater's post, you didn't let the twins watch that movie, did you?

    In that clip I wondered why those two guys parked their dinghy so far from where they had to go. Seems like they had a good 3 - 4 mile walk.
