ITead Studio SonOff

Has anyone been able to get these things to work? I am trying but on the App I get some Chinese stuff and even though it finds my wireless network it will not connect. The Chinese characters look as though I am suppose to select allow but neither of the 2 characters do anything. If I had another phone I would try but all I have is a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I have been reading that they may be an issue. Are there any other programs to try?

I'm with you 100% on that. No way do I want to depend on some web service that may disappear or want to charge fees. Open source/standards and 100% under my control before I will buy into it.

You do have the option of using the stock firmware or using nodemcu (or writing your own firmware). The schematic shows all the necessary pins are brought out for reprogramming. I picked up a few to play with, at about $5 each it's a good price for an esp8266 chip with an onboard relay.

Ah, OK, now we are talking. Might have to get me some :)
  • When someone writes an App that will work with them please let me know. I bought 4of them just to see how well they work. The App does not work on my Samsung Galaxy S5 or my iRulu tablet but it works on my old Sony phone. So what I ended up doing was to use my Sony phone to set them up then share them from that to my phone number and that works even after turning the Sony phone off. I tested it it definitely works. If I knew how to roll my own firmware and App I would. Any hints as to where I could start? Keep in mind I like to follow the KISS rule.
