Attaching SumoBot with Gripper

I recently tried to attach a gripper to my SumoBot, using brackets. It's a school project and i thought of introducing a gripper into my presentation. However, the rear bracket height (the one holding my servo motor) is too high and the actuator rod keeps colliding with the top of my Bot. I have limited resources as my school budget was mostly blown on the gripper. Any suggestions or help from people who has successfully attached a gripper onto their SumoBot?
