Gadget Gangster

Anyone know what happened to Gadget Gangster? The website is gone :(

Comments

  • I just found this thread. Man time flies by. I need to get back into building Propeller stuff again!
  • Yeah, it has been a while. Nonetheless, cheers to Nick and his former site, as it was instrumental in gently pushing me out of Stone Age and into the world of the Propeller. I hope he is doing well in whatever his new endeavors may be.

Yeah, I have a Gadget Gangster Prop board here. It's a wonderful thing.
  • Did anyone ever find out what happend to Gadget Gangster? They had hosted a robotics fair in my area back in 2008, I wish I had known about it, it was close to me, and would have been interested in going anything robotic.

Nick, (Gadget Gangster), has been gone for 3-4 years now. We miss him.

Yep, my Gadget Gangster Prop board is one of my favourite boards ever.
  • Thanks, I was surprised that this event was held around here, what would be considered a small venue, I wonder if he had ties to the area.

Jeff (Oldbitcollecter) was instrumental in getting many Expo's running. He put a massive amount of work in to them to pull them together.
    This is one:

  • @heater, looks like the forty pin DIP version came in kit form, that would have been fun to put together.
  • The Propeller platform is open source and another version is sold by Brian Riley's Wulfden shop:

That thread pretty much ended just after it started, but Oldbitcollecter is sure the man to ask if something like that is planned in the future for this area.
  • @Martin_H, link has been saved, I would like to order one someday soon.

    Thanks
  • The Propeller Platform was actually developed by our own JonnyMac. Here's a zip file with the Nuts and Volts article when it was introduced. It also has the ExpressPCB files so you can have your own made.
  • @Publison, I appreciate the history lesson, I wondered how the Arduino came into play here, and it was interesting to read that the P2 was on drawing boards back in 2009.

I've been to every one of OBC's NE Unoffical Propeller Expos. They have pretty much ended. The last one was in 2014 in Orville OH with about 10 people attending. There was talk about a 2015 one but sadly since April of 2015 OBC has been missing from any Parallax forums including his own forum.
  • Jeff had been around until the forum changeover here last July.

It's his birthday today, and he is on Facebook. If you have a Facebook account, you might wish him a good one.

Not to air dirty laundry, but was there some kind of falling out that Jeff is not around anymore ?
    I sure do miss him.

I may be recalling this totally wrongly. But I got the impression OBC was seriously disappointed with the forum "upgrade". He was then seriously disappointed when his complaints were moderated in a heavy handed way.

Understandable, why expend so much effort into supporting something when the something treats you in such an off hand manner?

Happy birthday OBC. Sorry, I don't do Facebook so I hope you get to see this.

Thanks Belittled for the info, I had checked the Norwalk, OH Chamber of Commerce, they had made a few phone calls, and found nothing scheduled for 2016. Orville OH is like in heart of Amish country, just hope they had better turnouts up this way. Sorry Oldbitcollecter has not been heard from on the forum lately, I don't know him but, anybody that can bring some excitement of that type to this area, is alright by me.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but there are so few sites left that are aligned with our common interests. One such site is ZappBots, which seems to be pretty slow lately. I think as these sites lose traffic they eventually die off. Perhaps we should think to pay them some attention. ;)

    Last blog post 2011...

If you do visit Jeff's Facebook page, you can see at least of the objects of his attention these days. Regardless of his reasons for trimming his time on forums, he appears a contented man. Family first, and all that.
  • He was just wished a Happy Birthday from the folks at Parallax Forums.

I talked with Jeff quite frequently on skype but for reasons unknown he has stopped talking to me and everyone else in the propeller community, I started my own forum (www.electronicshobby.net/forums) as I don't know how long PropellerPowered.Com will be online. I have been told that he is ok and well
