DB extender for TSL1401-DB line scan sensor

I am trying to use the TSL1401-DB line scan sensor with my Arduino Uno R3. How sensitive is this sensor to wire resistance, could I properly connect this to a breadboard simply by use a freshly prototyped socket header or some other cable that could fit in the socket; and are all the pins on theTSL1401-DB used for sketches written with Arduino. The question is, is the DB expander and the board of education for arduino really mandatory?

    No special interface cable is necessary. The pins you need to connect are Vdd (+3.3V or +5V), Gnd, CLK (logic-level input), SI (logic-level input), and AO (analog output).
