Care and feeding for the Propeller Mini

Does anybody here know if I can power a Mini with my own 3v3 supply and not use the onboard regulators? I looked over the schema but have so much going on I can only barely think well enough to conclude anything before laying out a board. I don't have one to smoke test.

Thanks in advance, Bryan

Nothing on the board except the regulators use Vin or +5V so it should be ok to input 3.3V on pin 4 of the mini.

Yep I do it often for prototyping battery based projects. I have even lifted the output pin of the 3.3v linear regulator to improve the efficiency. If you don't there is an extra 10 to 30mA back-fed through it. If you don't lift the pin it doesn't seem to cause a problem but the back-feed will kill your battery. I have also done this with the 5V regulator and supplied the mini with an external 5v instead of 3.3v.

Here is a thread I asked this same question to the forum but for 5v. http://forums.parallax.com/discussion/157425/is-it-possible-to-run-the-propeller-mini-with-5v#latest
  • Whatever you do, do not feed it after midnight.
