I have seen a couple of Corvair's just drop that rear mounted engine in the road, corrosion and metel fatigue were the problem. GM had in mind this concept was going to be just as happy in water as on land, I would hope they done better corrosion protection than their land lover counterpart.

I have much more confidence in amphiious cars than cars that convert into airplanes. With the right hull and floatation, one might merely be stranded until help arrives. But I think one should be sure to include a radio that can call the Coast Guard before they set out.

Let's face it, the military have the really good stuff. Isn't a properly built VW supposed to float?

NASA says your having bad weather in your area, there is a lot of people living in flood proned areas, a dual purpose vehicle might be something to think about.

Actually the weather here is dry and cool. And I live in a city of 1.2 million, so I don't need a boat or a car -- I just ride a Yamaha BWS 125cc with the dog on board.

But an amphibian might be useful for those on the Puget Sound. I left the Pacific Northwest partially because of all the rain.
