Does the Parallax 27979 use a Hitachi HD44780 ?

Also i need the file propeller.h, where can I find it?

1. Do not know. The interface is adequately described. Does it matter how they implemented it?

2. propellor.h comes with simpleIDE.

The LCD (QY-2004A0) uses a clone of the the 44780:

As Tom says, the LCD display you quote uses a serial interface, so no need to know the parallel interfacing.
