I'm trying to use a 2004 LCD serial display with my BS2P40. The display has an YwRobot Arduino LCM1602 I2C serial conversion bd installed. I need to be able to clear display, display messages, turn on backlight, etc, but I haven't been able to get it to do any thing. The I2COUT in the BS manual doesn't help at all. Can someone please help? Thanks

There's virtually no documentation on the I2C interface. The sample Arduino sketches aren't much use without the sources of the device library. What we do know from the above links is that there might be any one of several device addresses used: $3F, $20, $27. The Basic Stamp statements use the device address in bits 0-6 of the value supplied to the I2C statements, so you might also try: $7E, $40, $4E. The I2C statements will force the low order bit to the correct value for the operation needed. Make sure you've got the pull-up resistors described in the Stamp Reference Manual in the chapters on the I2C statements.

Thanks for your help but I think I'll trash these displays and stay with parallax displays. They're much easier to use.
