Erco, where can I buy clock mechanisms with hour trigger cheap on Ebay?

Hey Erco (and the folks)!

I know I'm damn cheapskate but I can't find hourly triggers for clock mechanisms in china factory from Ebay?

I have an old Seiko clock bought in Singapore in 1992, but the clock mechanism and the chime (that Mendelssohn's Spring Song) are broken beyond repair.

If I could get hold of one of these, I can stick that Propeller or anything on the trigger to have a nice sweet Westminster chime or any other song throughout the day (shuts off at sleeping time!) :)

Never seen one built in. I've made several from dollar quartz modules, easy enough, to set off an hourly sound chip in gag gifts. Spiral cam on the hour hand shaft rotates to slowly close microswitch, cam suddenly drops off to open switch on the hour mark. Superglue and tweaking required.

If you're using a Propeller any way why not have it do the timekeeping and play the chime or music as well?

    Good call, kwinn!

John, it's TIME to bust out some $1 stepper motors from China and make your own clock movement! Getting concentric hour/minute hands will be the main challenge.

Reminds me of this guy's digital/analog thermometer. Just why he started with such a nasty piece of plywood remains a mystery though.

Fairly jealous I didn't think of that thermometer first. Along with the Etch-a-Sketch data logger.

You could always with a 4'x4'x1/4" piece of plywood used as floor underlay. It's nice and smooth and large enough to make several small clock faces and hands, or one large one. The brass tubing available at most hobby stores could be used as the concentric shafts and bushings for the hands.
