I'm hoping he's having a nice vacation somewhere.
Yup, 5 days. He emailed me on Oct 22.
Thanks for asking!
If you need some more summer, you can have some of california's extras, we don't need anymore this year...

All's right with the world now that Jim's back on the case.

I just spent a week on the 1 acre lot cutting/pulling out growth that has never be here before. It's really weird, like some just came in and planted some alien plants.
What you need is a leaf blower. A ride-around leaf blower. Hmm...
Ran into a site that is actually using compost to heat water and transfer the heat to other uses. Yes folks, it is possible to use compost to provide another heat source for your home during the winter, or at least to augment solar water heating. Compost piles seem to sustain 150 degrees F, even through the winter at their core. Coils of pipe and even plastic hose may be used to harvest hot water.
Farmers have a huge advantage as they simply have more compost ingredients.
Sadly here in Taiwan I am still running the A/C as we are going into November. Usually it is turned off by now. But we don't have a fall with all the leaves. Nonetheless, just mowing down the jungle would provide a good source of compost for the winter, and there always is more jungle.
I have three composts working. I rotate two during the year. Sometimes I bag and bring to the recycling center when we have a bumper crop.
Last year, I had a five foot pile of leaves, waiting for the winter snow to knock them down. I had a red fox make a home in that stack, taking advantage of the generated heat. He/she took up shelter for 3-4 months
That rapscallion!
I can see Woof's tail. I can see Waldo. I can see Wendy. But I don't know what Publison looks like.
Or is Publison with Red Fox using the compost.
I believe Publison has a knack for interactive displays involving children, he could be behind the scenes at the bumper cars making them a bit more "interactive"?
