  • With Starwars, there was a lot of fun having the crowd cheer and boo. You can't get that at home. But most of my social movie going in Taiwan has been to the cheaper second run movie house. It is just easier to get someone to agree to go when the price is 50% or less.

And a nice reclining chair with a side table for refreshments.

That's the nice thing about the Vine Cinema. They have several couches, recliners, and tables in their theater.

That would just annoy me no end.

On the other hand Starwars is so bad that an audience like that might be more interesting.
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show is just not the same at home. Getting dressed up like that around the house is often strange.........all revved up with no place to go
  • And a good friend to get you refills.

At one time, I tried to introduce "Rocky Horror Picture Show" to my adult students in Taiwan. I brought a copy from the USA back from a home visit. I think they all decided I was a pervert. Humor in one culture may not amuse another one.

Getting dressed up like a tranny vampire in Taiwan could end very very badly, and even worse in Malyasia or Indonesia. I am beginning to wonder what Mindrobots wears around the house.

What's I'd really pay good money to see are the Thin Man series in black and white with Myrna Malloy. and all the old black and white movies with Peter Lorrie. But the Taiwanese just won't accept looking at a black and white movie... it has to be color.

BTW, it is Oct 31st and almost midnight here, the anniversary of Chiang Kai Chek's birthday almost gone. It used to be celebrated as a national holiday.

Yikes! That's a bit disturbing.......I'm more of a cross between Eddie and Brad - in and out of the house.
  • The farce shure did awaken, broke box office records Thursday, 57.3 million, exspected to break it's own record over the weekend.

    I'm sure you are right.

When I was a kid being introduced to concepts like time travel or the idea that a box can be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside was awe inspiring. Thanks Dr Who.

Perhaps that's my issue with Star Wars. It's total lack of any stimulating concepts. As you say, it's not scifi.

Why thank you Heater. That's me in a different working suit.

I saw it Friday. It was a splendid experience. Not having to pay for it was a plus. IBM did......

That didn't take long! It's already pirated and online for free, if you like seeing people's heads.

Possibly. But connecting a good (enough) film to car advertising suggests that our car companies are desperate. Namely Dodge and Ford.

Especially Dodge working both sides of the street.

Strange. Erco what's that robot of yours doing in his den watch football? (American)
  • The original Star Wars was released in 1977. Basically there have been three generations now that were exposed to the series in some way or another. "The Force Awakens" was just about guaranteed to become the biggest movie of all time, as long as JJ Abrams didn't totally blow it (as he has done in the past). Apparently he managed to do okay.
  • I know Wal-Mart stores will have enough Star Wars paraphanailia to clearance for awhile.

    RDL2004,

Luckily I'm 4th Generation :) I can leave it till I find myself in a situation where it's unavoidable.

Building a clone of that football robot thing seems like a decent challenge though.

Is it just me, or was BB-8 much less endearing than R2-D2?

They'll still sell a billion of them. The "Force Friday" feeding frenzy was a marketing masterstroke, far better planned than the mail-in coupon toys from the original movie: https://www.yahoo.com/movies/the-first-worst-star-wars-christmas-a-look-182628649.html

    I really am missing something.

Do those BB-8 on sale cheat by having mechanics in the "belly"?

It's okay. In one of the surviving Radio Shack stores here in the US, the clone who claims to sell only phones, is not a fan, and has no <DELETED!> idea what makes that BB-8 droid unique. Or what makes R2D2 special, or even what makes C3P0 an interesting individual. Besides, its refreshing to see someone like that clone....

Oh and my site claims that he's ignoring the rest of the world. It must have been caused by something Erco's robot did when he was here earlier today.

Whatever you are comfortable in, that's what I say....well that's my excuse anyway, not sure the missus sees it that way though :-*
