Computer won't connect to Basic Stamp 2

Computer won't connect to a BS2 using a Parallax USB to Serial adapter. The adapter blinks once when plugged into computer. I'm only having this problem with one computer. In the software, if I try to identify the microcontroller, I get a message that says:

Communication Error
No usable serial ports found
